Inauguration of the Physical Planners Registration Boardadmin
Nairobi Friday 26th October 2018… Inauguration of the Physical Planners Registration Board…The National Director of Physical Planning, Mr. Augustine Masinde last month opened the inaugural Physical Planners Registration Board workshop at a Nairobi hotel.
The workshop drew planners from public and private sectors across the country.
The theme of the event was ‘Continuous Professional Development.’
Mr. Masinde said that development control operates via instruments that are in constitutional, policy and legal context.
“All development applications should be conceded based on existing approved plans, zoning and lands use policies and planning principles.” said the National Director for Physical Planning.
He said that development control cuts across a number of development proposals which meet the specified criteria as defined in the spatial planning Act Cap 286.
The Physical Planners Registration Act, Cap 536 regulates the physical Planning Practice as per the Physical Planning Act, Cap 286. Section 3 of the Physical Planners Registration Act, Cap 536 establishes the Physical Planners Registration Board which is mandated to;
- Register all eligible persons to practice as Physical Planners in accordance with the provisions of the Act
- Set and conduct examinations for purposes of registration of Physical Planners
- Verify the qualifications and eligibility of the applicants seeking registration with the Board
- Enquire into the professional misconduct of a member and institute disciplinary proceedings against such member in accordance with the provisions of the Act
The Physical Planners Registration Board Consists of nine (9) members nominated from the Public Sector (National and County), University of Nairobi Department of Urban and Regional Planning and the Architectural Association of Kenya (Town Planners Chapter) who are appointed by the Cabinet secretary as per the provisions of the Schedule of the Act.
