The demarcation process

Government Settles Trans Mara Land Row After 50 Years

September 17, 2025.
The Government, through the State Department for Lands and Physical Planning, has successfully completed a comprehensive boundary demarcation exercise that has resolved a land dispute in Trans Mara which lasted more than five decades. The conflict, between the Moyoi/2 Adjudication Section and Angata Barrikoi Registration Section, had fueled court battles, inter-communal skirmishes, and mistrust, denying families the security to develop their land.
The Director of Surveys, Mr. Maritim Weldon, addresses participants during a strategic meeting held ahead of the commencement of the exercise.
The exercise was led by the Lands and Physical planning PS Hon. Generali Nixon Korir and executed by the Director of Surveys, Mr. Maritim Weldon, with a team of 36 Government Surveyors. Aligning with President's William Samoei Ruto directive to mediate and deliver lasting solutions to historical land disputes, this milestone marks a turning point for peace and sustainable land governance in the region.
The survey has delivered clear boundaries, improved security of tenure, permanent conflict resolution, restored peace and cohesion, and strengthened land governance through updated cadastral records.
“For over fifty years, this land has been a source of tension. By completing the survey and setting clear boundaries, we have given certainty and dignity back to the people.” said Mr. Maritim Weldon, Director of Surveys.

Government surveyors update records following the land demarcation between the Moyoi/2 Adjudication Section and Angata Barrikoi Registration Section.
With the demarcation now complete, the next phase will be processing and issuance of title deeds to eligible landowners. This will provide residents with legally recognized ownership documents, further strengthening tenure security and unlocking economic opportunities for development in Trans Mara.
This is not just a boundary exercise but a promise fulfilled: peace, fairness, and opportunity for generations in Trans Mara.
