Lands CS Alice Wahome Hands over title deed to Lavington Primary School

NAIROBI, June 11, 2025

Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Alice Wahome, today officially handed over the title deed for Lavington Primary School back to the school’s management, marking a significant victory in the government's ongoing efforts to reclaim public land.
The school, which was allocated the land in the 1960s, lost part of the land due to irregular allocations and has been fighting to win back ownership for the last 15 years.
However, after an investigation spearheaded by the Ministry of Lands and relevant state agencies, the land has now been fully restored to the institution.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at the school grounds, CS Wahome reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to protecting public property, especially land designated for educational, health, and other critical public services.
“This title deed rightfully belongs to the children of Lavington Primary School. As a government, we are determined to reverse illegal allocations and ensure that schools across the country are protected from land grabbing,” she said.
The school administration and local education officials welcomed the move, describing it as a major relief and a restoration of justice. They expressed gratitude for the swift intervention by the Ministry and pledged to safeguard the institution’s property moving forward.
This recovery is part of a broader national initiative by the Ministry of Lands to audit public land records and take action against illegal encroachments.
The CS encouraged other schools that have similar problems relating to land to come forward and reach out to her office for help.
