Lands PS Leads NYOTA Sensitization Drive in Nairobi to Empower 820,000 Youths
October 6, 2025
The Principal Secretary for Lands and Physical Planning, Hon. Generali Nixon Korir, has led the sensitization drive of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project in Nairobi to empower 820,000 youths.
The initiative targets 100,000 youth to be supported nationwide, with 70 beneficiaries per ward across 1,450 wards. Each beneficiary will receive a Ksh 50,000 grant for business startups. Additionally, 90,000 youth will undergo job training with trainers, while 600,000 youth will be trained on accessing Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO).
PS noted that Kenya faces a major employment challenge, with only 3.5 million people in formal employment, while over 16.5 million remain either unemployed or working in the informal sector. The NYOTA Project seeks to bridge this gap by equipping youth with the skills, knowledge, and resources to enter productive work or start businesses.

The event, held at Kariokor Social Hall in Nairobi, brought together key stakeholders, including Nairobi County political leadership and National Government Administration Officers, in a bid to raise awareness and rally support for the ambitious youth empowerment initiative.
PS Korir described the NYOTA Project as a transformative program designed to expand opportunities for young Kenyans through employment creation, enterprise development, financial inclusion, and digital empowerment.
“I encourage you to familiarize yourselves with the program, prepare adequately, and seize this opportunity with confidence,” said PS Korir. “This project will empower the youth to learn, earn, save, and scale their ideas into sustainable businesses.”

The initiative, a flagship program supported by the World Bank, seeks to address youth unemployment by equipping young people with the tools and resources necessary to build dignified and self-sustaining livelihoods.

He emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement, saying the session aimed to mobilize leaders at all levels to inspire, mentor, and guide youth to take full advantage of the program.
Also speaking at the event, Starehe Member of Parliament Hon. Mwago Amos Maina praised the program, noting its potential to transform lives and stimulate local economies.
Dagoretti South Member of Parliament Hon. John Kiarie Waweru expressed his support for the sensitization initiative, observing that while government job opportunities exist, many citizens miss out due to a lack of awareness.
Among other leaders in attendance were Nairobi County Commissioner David Wanyonyi, Nominated Senator, Karen Nyamu, County Executive Committee Member for Business and Hustler Opportunities Dr. Anastacia Nyalita, and Ziwani Kariokor MCA Gerald Irungu, alongside various local leaders.
Eligible youth can apply for support under the NYOTA Project between October 6th and October 12th, 2025, by dialing *254# on their mobile phones.
