Lands PS visits Angata Barrikoi as Govt embarks on final resolution of Transmara land conflict

Lands Principal Secretary Generali Nixon Korir today addressed a public gathering at Angata Barrikoi as part of the Government's efforts to resolve land disputes in Transmara that have dragged on for the last five decades.
The PS met with elders at Ongata Barrikoi Girls High School where he informed them that the Government will start implementing a consent agreement reached between groups that have been locked in disputes over the land.
"I have been sent here by the President after he met with the representatives of the different communities living here. We will implement the consent you reached after the meetings you held with His Excellency the President," said the PS.
Kilgoris MP Julius Ole Sunkuli welcomed the visit by the PS and thanked the President for his initiative to find a lasting solution for the dispute.

"We have come to accompany PS Korir who has been sent by the President to conclude the resolution of the dispute that has pitted the two communities living here against each other for many years," said the MP.
Emurua Dikirr MP Johanah Ngeno, who also accompanied the PS, said the people living in the area appreciate the initiative by the Government and called on residents to strive to maintain peace.
The PS and the leaders said the recent incident in which Government officials were attacked by locals was as a result of misunderstanding and suspicions.
The PS directed the area Deputy County Commissioner to coordinate a committee of 10 people that will accompany the surveyors once they start working on Wednesday next week.
The PS was accompanied by Director of Surveys Mr. Weldon Maritim.
