State Department for Lands Plants 4,000 Trees in Gathiuru Forest, Nyeri County

The State Department for Lands and Physical Planning today has planted more than 4,000 trees in Gathiuru Forest, Nyeri County, strengthening ongoing conservation efforts in partnership with the local community. This exercise adds to the 46,000 trees planted by residents over the past week.
Led by Secretary Administration Florence Amoit, the Department also distributed 100,000 seedlings to community members to extend conservation initiatives beyond the forest reserve.

Ms. Amoit commended the team for their dedication and highlighted the alignment of these efforts with H.E. President William Samoei Ruto’s ambitious initiative to plant 15 billion trees by 2032. “We have planted over 370,000 trees cumulatively, and we will continue doing this for ourselves and for posterity,” she noted.
Local residents expressed appreciation to the Government for the partnership, which has enabled them to cultivate land while caring for newly planted trees. “Farming this land has enabled us to raise our children and support our families. It has also improved the survival rate of the trees,” said Mr. John on behalf of the residents.

County Conservator Esther Mugo urged the community to continue nurturing the trees to maturity. “We are not just planting trees; we are growing forests,” she emphasized. “Let’s take good care of the trees for the good of our environment and our country.”
 
Those who participated in the exercise included Director of Surveys Weldon Maritim, Director of NLIMS Monica Obongo, Chief Land Registrar David Nyandoro, Director of ICT Leonard Maritim, Senior Deputy Secretary Hezron Nyaberi, and Deputy Director HRM&D George Nyahoro, among other senior government officials.
