Officials of Zimbabwe Land Commission Visit to Learn from Kenya’s Experience in Land Administration

The State Department for Lands and Physical Planning today hosted a delegation from the Zimbabwe Land Commission as part of a knowledge-sharing initiative. The visit, offered the Zimbabwean officials an opportunity to benchmark best practices in land administration.

The delegation, comprising Commissioners L. Marembo, T. R. Choruma Dozwa, S. Tongogara, and Mr. P. Mawire, focused on Kenya’s development of a functional agricultural land leasehold system and its balanced, transferrable 99-year lease framework.

“Currently, all the land in Zimbabwe is State owned.We’re here to gain insights into Kenya’s approach, particularly the institutional arrangements that facilitate the effective implementation of the 99-year lease system,” stated Commissioner Marembo, head of the Zimbabwean delegation.

During the one-day tour, the delegation visited the Nairobi and Central Land Registries at the Geospatial Data Center (GDC) in Ruaraka, where they gained first-hand knowledge of Kenya’s land registration processes.

Acting Director of Valuation Herbert Were, who led the senior officials of the State Department for Lands and Physical Planning, remarked on the collaborative potential of the visit.

“This exchange allows us to share our experiences and challenges, fostering regional growth in land administration and policy,” said Mr. Were.
