Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Hon. Alice Wahome today presided over a tree planting exercise at Gathiuru Forest in Nyeri County where more than 50,000 trees were planted.
She also led a similar exercise in South Marmanet Forest Station, near Nyahururu Town.
In Nyeri County, CS Wahome was accompanied by the CEO of the National Land Commission Kabale Arero and senior officers from the State Department for Lands and Physical Planning during the tree planting.
“This tree planting exercise will not only restore our ecosystem but also generate income for our people,” said CS Wahome.
CS Wahome noted that Nyeri County is leading the country wide in terms of forest cover with 48 percent and also has the biggest tree cover of 40 percent.
Also present during the event were Deputy governor Warui Kinaniri, Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina, County Commissioner Pius Murugu among other senior Government officials.
