The Ministry of lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development has made considerable strides in conferring titles to land owners through the National Titling Programme.

Lands Cabinet Secretary Hon. Alice Wahome said this today at the Nairobi Radisson Blu hotel, when she led the Heads of Department in a meeting with Landesa, a land sector NGO, to discuss key areas for partnership on the ongoing implementation of the Community Land Act.

The CS said working in partnership with land sector players will boost the efforts to guarantee security of tenure for all segments of the population particularly the women, children, minorities, People with Disabilities among other vulnerable segments in the society.

“I have to make special mention of social impacts of HIV/AIDS that has disinherited widows by their inability to legally inherit their spouses’ land and in worst case scenarios are forced off their land by male relatives,” said Wahome.

Lands and Physical Planning PS Hon. Generali Nixon Korir thanked Landesa for their partnership aimed at improving service delivery in the state department.

“The partnership is key in boosting security of land tenure, land digitization and other areas which are key in the titling process,” said PS Korir.

Landesa is an international non-governmental organization that fights poverty and provides opportunity and security for poor rural women and men through the power of land rights.
