Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Hon. Alice Wahome accompanied by Lands PS Hon. Generali Nixon Korir this morning officially opened the executive retreat of the State Department for Lands and Physical Planning.
CS Wahome said the purpose of the two days retreat bringing together over 300 field officers and stakeholders is to create focus and harmony in the provision of services to clients.
The stakeholders include the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), Institute of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK), Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
The CS emphasized on the need to collaborate and serve Kenyans faithfully and also beat cartels who have dominated in the land sector for a long time.
“I want us to shine through revenue collection of stamp duty. I know the loopholes as a practitioner and we must find areas of convergence and to close the gaps,” said CS Alice Wahome.
She added that by increasing revenue collection, it will attract allocation of more budget and improve their working conditions especially the land registries.
CS Wahome noted that, the government is also going to revoke all the titles that are acquired illegally.
Lands and Physical Planning Principal Secretary Hon. Generali Nixon Korir said the state department is progressing on well and that with collaboration with stakeholders it can do much better.
“I thank our stakeholders, LSK, ISK, DCI,EACC for their continued support. One of the challenge that we’ve been having is the Ardhisasa system but since we engaged our stakeholders it’s now sorted,” said PS Korir.
National Land Commissioner Reginald Okumu who represented the NLC Chairman Gershom Otachi called upon the land administration officers not to process the expired allotment letters.
“Once 60 day’s end, the allotment letter expires. Kindly do not process it if its not forwarded by NLC,” said Commissioner Okumu.
Heads of technical departments are expected to make presentations during the two-day retreat, providing guidelines to lands’ field staff as they serve the public.
